DailyLit

Ok, I've posted about this before in previous iterations but I noticed yesterday that at some time in the recent past DailyLit.com has recently expanded and updated their site and so, I think its time to givem them some space here and talk about them.

First of all, I'll admit that I, possibly unfairly, still harbor some slim hope that at some point in the future people will lay down their remote controls and turn back to books again. Stephen King says that the problem (the end of the novel and reading in general) isn't really a problem at all and that people are still reading and, honestly, I tend to agree with him. But that having been said, I'm also all-in for anything which makes reading more accessible and more easily incorporated into our daily routines. I think most non-readers would generally agree that time is the biggest factor keeping them from reading more. Not all, but most.

Enter DailyLit.com. Sign up for daily, bi-daily, or whatever emails sent to you containing 5 minute pieces of classic literature - fiction or non. For those of you into RSS feeds, DailyLit now offers daily feeds to your browser as well.

I'm not going to lie. It's slow going. Reading War and Peace over the course of 180 installments would be daunting I think, if for no other reason than I'd always be requesting the next installment to push on just a little bit further and find out what happens next.

Their selection is surprisingly wide ranging now and even offers several volumes of work in foreign languages and I can personally vouch for them being extremely non-hassling and easy to work with. It's a good product and I've been using it for awhile now, but the selection and interface were improved recently. Good stuff!

I think you need to choose the next book for our book club. I don't care if nobody else is reading them - I like discussing my books with SOMEONE. Currently I am reading the newest Jodi Picoult book, Nineteen Minutes. It's very good so far.
